carpets are wonderful and majestic floor covering carpet that not only
add grandeur to the room but also give lively and magical feelings to
underfoot. Carpet weaving is a centuries old tradition and virtually
every city of Persia is engaged in the production of carpet. Apart from
being produced in Persia, these carpets are also manufactured in India
and Pakistan by imitating the style and are cheaper as compared to
original source of destination. Quality wise though they might not
compete the original specimen but nevertheless they cannot be dubbed as
inferior in either way. Persian carpets are generally handmade. Hence always watch out for finishing. By finishing we paean that carpet should be well sheared, thoroughly washed and cleaned. If the carpet is not washed ask your dealer to get it washed as they are adept in it. Persian carpets are made of natural raw materials like silk, cotton and wool. Wool used in the carpet is of finer quality, soft and lusturious. They give soft feeling when touched. The natural materials used in the carpet also do not harm the carpet in anyway. They do not release harmful gases as synthetic fiber carpets do. Persian
carpets are constructed in different knot density. Knots per square inch
indicate the quality and value of a fine carpet, the higher the number
the better the carpet is. It takes experienced fingers to make that many
very small knots. Persian carpets of many types. Their type indicates the place of their origin. Some of the Important Persian carpets are: Afshar Carpets, Ardabil Carpets, Farahan Carpets, Esfahan Carpets, Hussainabad Carpets, Kurdish Carpets, Luri Carpets, Qashqai Carpets etc. These carpets are weaved either in cities or in Villages. If you are a lover of rustic art, ask for Persian tribal or village carpet. City carpets are more sophisticated and have better finish. Color harmony, border design, border colors and central medallion design should be properly checked. The price should be reasonable and must corroborate the stuff you are purchasing. If you wish to buy antique Persian carpet make sure you are buying the original antique piece and not the replica of antique piece. Sometimes carpets are chemically bleached to look like antique carpet. Be aware ! Always purchase the carpet from the trusted source. |
