Nylon happens to be the most popular synthetic carpet fiber. It offers
tremendous value in terms of durability and maintenance. Nylon carpets
may have brilliant bright colors. It can handle soiling and high traffic
well.
Nylon is considered one of the strongest fibers after wool for the
purpose of floor covering. Additional benefits are that nylon is
abrasion resistant, crush resistant, and stain resistant. Special care
is taken to add the carbon element so as to avoid static formation. To
top it all, they are always less expensive than the wool or silk
carpets.
Designs
Nylon carpets can be woven in the same way as a woolen carpet. Though
still the most common type are the tufted carpets. They may be loop pile
or cut pile type. Since nylon takes up color well, the patterns created
are bright and detailed. Plain nylons are quite in vogue for wall to
wall coverings. Tufted carpets require latex coating on the backside and
a secondary backing to hold and secure the tufts.
