Nain Carpets

Nain
is located in central Iran in Isfahan region. And was known for Isfahan
carpets only in 1920's. Gradually the weavers there created their own
identity by creating fine patterns. Nain region produces one of the finest
carpets of Iran. The colors of this type of rug are muted but many. White,
ivory, beige, buff, light gray, light blue, turquoise, navy, light brown,
camel, and burgundy are among the most frequently used colors which happens
to be a major distinguishing factor.
Nain carpets have detailed curvilinear designs. They are similar to Esfahan
rugs, animal and bird motifs are more prominent in the background. Use of
Islimi motif is also quite prominent. The common designs consist of star
medallions, shah abbasi and islimi medallion-and-corner.
Nain rugs are woven with the asymmetrical (Persian) knots. Most of Nain
rugs have either wool pile, or wool pile with silk highlights, all-silk Nain
rugs are rare.The foundation can be either cotton or silk. Knots density
varies from 120 -840 psi.
