Heriz Carpets

Heriz
carpets range from the coarse thick rugs with a heavy handle to the finer
rugs with a softer handle. Most of them have a large single medallion in the
center that has eight edges. They vary in sizes to a large extent. Light
red, brown and sky blue are the primary colors where blue is used for
contrast and contours. Brown, beige and turquoise shades indicate antique
pieces.
They primarily have a geometric pattern outlook complimented with flowers,
twines and vases. They are typically furnishing carpets rather than art
carpets even though they do not in any way compromise the art part. It is
the massive size that sets them aside as furnishings only. They are a little
square than other Persian carpets.
Wraps of Heriz carpets are always cotton but the weft may be wool. The pile
is always woolen and is soft with a medium thickness. The knots are Turkish
type with a tight texture. It has a sturdy construction with a thick, hardy
weaving wool. The yarn is dyed with vegetable colors.
